The classic institutional pack which many users never grow out of! a perfect entry level pack for young people beginning a life of outdoor adventure. With dual backlengths this is a pack to grow into, share or hire. The long-term economy of canvas over cheaper synthetic bag fabrics is indisputable.
Breakout
The BREAKOUT is a rugged, simple pack for schools, outdoor clubs, youth organisations and hire equipment pools. It is specifically designed for reliability, good wet weather performance, minimum maintenan ce, and therefore the benefit of lifetime economy. (If you are buying for an institution be sure to read the last paragraph, below).
There are Breakouts packs now in their second decade of continuous use with outdoor education units. Always striving to build the best performing products we have included our sophisticated Synchro-FORM haness system on recent Breakout models. This premium, unique harness system has benefits that are particularly relevant in the shared use, institutional equipment arena. Besides the advantage that the hip level of this system automatically adapts to any hip shape, it is by design particularly durable and , unlike any other hip harness on the market, its components are ealily removed from the pack bag and simple to repair if accidentally damaged. For example, the hip pad laminated foam inserts can be removed from their 3D shells without the need to unpick a single stitch!
By cutting the canvas bag rim higher than usual and finishing it with a simple, strong, eyelet-free drawcord system Sea To Summit have avoided the durability problems typical of lightweight throats. The bag capacity has been increased a little and, to the top cover, we've added a convenient 'camera pocket'. On the back of the pack, each side of the simple, zipless, more-waterproof-than-any-other back pocket Sea To Summit has provided webbing loops so, if you like, shockcord lacing can be fitted. (The new Breakout incorporates all the features of the previous Sea To Summit Discovery 1 model, now discontinued).
A note for institutional buyers: If Sea To Summit used a synthetic fabric rather than their corespun canvas the cost of this model would have been reduced. On paper this is a tempting option, particularly if you are purchasing a large quantity of packs for institutional equipment inventory. Don't go there! In ten years time the seams on the Sea To Summit canvas packs will be holding up as new and the pack bags will still be repelling rain. In a simple procedure you can effectively re-proof the canvas anytime with Sea To Summit's wax solution. This restores the canvas water repellency to new performance. None of this is true even for well made synthetic pack bags, particularly those not in the care of individual owners. Add to this the fact that making good repairs is always time consuming and thus expensive. Think two or three synthetic packs to the life of one canvas model. Then also think about the user. The significantly better wet weather performance of a canvas Breakout will only enhance the chances of that first backpacking experience being a positive one.

(Small pads do not fit on the standard medium length plates).
